Correct. Run as many queries as you want on any tier at no additional cost. You only pay for storage. This is possible because our infrastructure is self-hosted at fixed cost, and we pass that efficiency through to you.
Yes. Move collections between hot, warm, and paused at any time. Billing follows the new tier immediately, in either direction. Resuming a paused collection takes about five minutes.
Paused is for collections you want to keep but aren't actively querying. Your vectors and the index we tuned for them are preserved on HDD at minimal cost ($0.09 per GB / month). When you resume, you skip the auto-optimization run and you're query-ready in minutes. No reindexing, no rebuild.
